"The past week has been very hard for my family, and for me as well. My father was always there for me. He was always by my side. He always supported me and believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself," Kimmich said.
"That's why it's really difficult to come back. Because when I'm out on the pitch, that's actually when I think about him the most," said the midfielder, who led Bayern as captain on his return after missing three games.
Berthold Kimmich passed away last week at the age of 57.
"It was important to come back, to try to get back into a normal daily routine. Even if sometimes you wish the world would just stand still for a bit. But unfortunately - and fortunately - it keeps moving."
He added that he was happy to be back with the team and expressed his gratitude for the sympathy and condolences that he and his family have received.
"The support from the club, the DFB (German Football Federation), and everyone around us was very special. It meant a great deal to me," he said.
